Review of “Note book”

Notebook is an malayalam language movie directed by Rosshan Andrews.

The film is set against the colourful backdrop of a boarding school and everything about the film is colourful. It captures school life, and delves into issues like friendship, love, parental care etc. In a sensitive manner. Towards the end, the film gives us some very touching moments too.

Trailer of ‘notebook ‘

The members of the cast have put in a good performance. It’s Roma as saira who impress the most. Parvathi as pooja and Maria as sreedevi too are good. Suraj is a good choice. Mejo joseph, who also tunes the songs for the film, has put in a very impressive performance as Feroz Ahmed, the rather meek and shy student who has a passion for music. Suresh Gopi as Brigadier Alexander (saira’s father) does an impressive guest role. Seeta as pooja’s mother roo is impressive sukanya as sreedevi’s mother and premprakash as sreedevi’s father make their roles apt. Bobby as the principal father Antony, nicknamed dragon by the students, is also a good choice. Aiswarya as siara’s mother is her usual self.

Thr songs by sharatg chandra varma and set to tune by mejo joseph are good.

In this story suraj falls in love with sridevi and in a school excursion they end up making love which results in sridevi becoming pregnant. How Saira and pooja deal the situation and what follows form the rest of the story.

Priyadarshan directed film is a comedy and for the first time the director who has made nearly 30 films with mohanlal as the hero is making a film with the current hot favorite Dileep. Bhavana puri a mumbai model is the heroine.

Vettam is not only a full length comedy movie. But also a mix-up of emotions, romance, and a good story line. Highlight of this movie is the sequential chain reactions of each and every scene.

Review of ‘kireedam ‘

kireedam is a malayalam language drama film directed by sibi malayil and written by A. K Lohithadas. Started by Mohanlal, Thilakan, & parvathy jayaram, along with kaviyoor ponnamma, mohan raj, murali, sreenath, kundara johny, cochin haneefa, jagathy sreekumar, usha, jagadish, maniyanpilla raju, mamukkoya and oduvil unnikrishnan in supporting roles.

This is a landmark movies and in mohanlal’s career. The tragic drama will leave you with moist eyes everytime you see it. The climactic fight sequence and mohanlal’s emotional breakdown when confronted by his father Thilakan. It gives me goosebumps and a lump in my throat everytime.

The fight ensues between keerikkadan jose and sethu madhavan (mohanlal)and both are arrested by the police. Since he managed to defeated the reigning rowdy, sethumadhavan is typecast a rowdy the people of the town. After recovering, keerikkadan jose and sethumadhavan and his family. With the police failing to protect him, sethu is forced to fight for his life and ends up killing keerikkadan. Sethu sentenced to prison for murdering jose. Head constable Achuthan Nair (thilakan, his father ) reads the police verification report which states sethu as a “notorious criminal”.

The film as a whole is a painfully realistic depiction of sethu’s life and the way his youthful dreams were replaced by the horror of being offered an undesirable crown.

Review of ‘Neethaane En ponvasantham’

Neethaane En ponvasatham is a tamil language romance film directed by Gautham Menon, started by jeeva & samantha Ruth prabhu in the notable roles.

The films background score and sound track were composed by Illaiyaraaja, and cinematography was handled by M.S Pranbhu and Om prakash . Jeeva and samantha has done a fantastic job, each and every scenes are so real. Lots of love to Gautam Menon for bringing out a beautiful love story with real emotions and love. It expressed true inner feelings of love. will be forever my favourite.

A movie that can be easily related to all persons who are in love. The flavour of Goutam in his every movies and the way he establish hid heroines are damn good.

Varun and nithya are clearly madly in love with each other but what becomes an obstacle is not their own priorities in life. Varun wants to realize his parents aspirations and put romance on the backburner for a while, but the well-off nithya is quite content to be with him every possible second. Naturally, they misunderstand each other, she thinks he is self -centered and sidelining her for his personal improvement while he feels she might remain unambitious and even fears her over reliance on him might create problems at a later stage.

Review of ‘Thanga Magan’

Thanga magan is a tamil language film written and directed by velraj. Stared by Dhanush in the film alongside samantha Ruth prabhu & Amy jackson.

Tamizh’s (dhanush) life is divided between the time zones of first love and first marriage. His instant attraction towards Hema (amy) works in his favor after he delivers a couple of harmless jokes regarding her beauty. Samantha then enters the picture coyly.

It’s just about his family, and he needs to find a way to rescue and redeem it, it’s a relief to see that he doesn’t have to rescue all of society. Even the big twist is not overly cinematic. I would have loved to see the core story being made into a grittily realistic drama, devoid of heroism, and pointless love tracks and uninspiring fight sequences.

Dhanush is a real ‘thanga magan’ in this film but if the 2 hour movie were released episodically one hour each, the audience would have been happy with just the first episode here becomes a little struggle to sit through.

It shows the true nature and cruel happenings of the todays world. Dhanush acted so well and delivers a great overall movie

Review of ‘Godha’

Godha is a indian malayalam language film directed by Basil joseph, starred by Tovino Thomas, wamiqa Gabbi, Renji panicker & Aju vargheese.

Anjaneya Das (Tovino) hails from a family of wrestlers but loves cricket more. His dad (renji panicker) packs him off to punjab university for his M-tech, where he meets Aditi singh (wamiqa), a passionate wrestler. A series of events land them both back in god’s own county & a now episode of kusthi begins.

Anjaneya Das is an ex- wrestler who loves playing cricket with his friends. His dad, who is respectively called captain by all in their kusthi. While das & his friends want to play cricket on the village playground manayathu vayal. Aditi is played by wamiqa gabbi through a series of circumstances, the two end up back in Das’s village wherr each goes through a coming of age journey. The heroine, punjabi girl wamiqa who steels she show here with an impressive show. She is pretty & absolutely convincing as a wrestler.

Captain as renji panicker’s character is called is struggling not just with growing indifference within the community, but within his home too. His own son Das was a promising wrestler but gave it up.

A clash ensures as both the generation are not ready to let go of their favorite ground. Cricket vs kusthi is the main theme in the first half & it swings in action with humor.

Aditi is not a girl who settles for anything less than her dreams. And the biggest of her dreams is become a wrestler.

While the first half of the movie engages the audience through numerous comic sequence by Das, the second half of the movie will make you fall in love with Adithi, who carries the movie on her shoulders.

Aju vargheese Balettan would remain memorable for his perfect comic timing & screen presence. Hareesh kanaaran, sreejith ravi & kottayam pradheep too deserve special mention.

Godha is a simple sports story that will not disappointed you.

Review of “Petta”

Petta is a indian tamil language film. It is an action drama film, which written & directed by Karthik subbaraj. The film stars Rajinikanth in title role.

Petta is a well-made Rajinikanth film. Rajinikanth sir enters petta as college warden. kaali but he is not what he claims to be, which is pretty obvious. He set the ragging guys right, & tries to solve a young lovers problems & also get impressed by mangala (simran), a pranic healer. But he is not what he seems to be, he is hiding something. And the twist is revealed, he has come to this college to save one person.kaali’s real name is veera petta.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the main villian once again gives a good performance. Makkal selvan Vijay sethupathi in a key role provides additional value to the story. Both simran & Thrisha are used like curry leaves in a dish, no importance, not much space for them.

We have not seen this stylish thalaiva in the recent times. His one man show in the first half doesn’t provide a boring moment. The fight sequence using lights & dark shade pattern & his comedy have worked in the first half. And hid romance with simran is pure bliss to watch. The stylish presentation & vibrant storytelling keep it interesting till the very end. There are also many dull moments in the second half which picks steam only in climax.

Camerawork is main highlight while the first half is dominated by blue, black & the second half is brighter. Songs are not that catchy except marana mass song but Anirudh has given good background score.

That swag continues throughout the film, a revenge saga filled with long Action blocks & some solid surprises.

One the whole ‘petta’ is a film for thalaiva Rajini fans.

Review of “Joseph”

Joseph is a malayalam language thriller film directed by M. Padmakumar & written by shahikabir. Joseph is an retired police officer with superb investigative skill. He accidentally gets involved in a crime case after his ex-wife’s unexpected death. It stars Joju george, Dileesh pothan, lrshad, Athmiya, Johny Antony, Sudhi koppa, Malavika Menon, & Madhuri Braganza. Some scenes in the movie is based on real life experience from the writer, shahi kabir. Joseph is a difficult man to read. A retired police officer is also a remarkably sharp man.

He leads an undisciplined life, but he can solve even the most difficult of crimes in a few hours. Joju won the kerala state film award for best character Actor and special mention in the national awards 2018 for the film.

There are some interesting characters that are part of the narration and some twist and turns in the story that keeps the viewer glued on to the screen. Though the basic concept is compelling and the story is genuine. One gets the feeling that the script have been tighter. Director padmakumar has adopted a conventional pattern to tell the tale and for those who are regularly watching modern thrillers this one could be an okay watch the best. The songs at times affect the pace of the narrative.

Then the highlight of the film is terrific performance from joju george. He becomes the character and conveys the array of emotions that he faces in a brilliant way. He appears in three different look. But he is seen mostly in the older version.

It is an honest attempt that needs to be appreciated. The film is being remade in kannada as Ravi Bopanna starring V. Ravichandran.

Review of A girl in the river:The PRICE of FORGIVENESS

A women in Pakistan sentenced to death for falling in love becomes a rare survivor of the country’s harsh judicial system .

A Girl in the river:The price of forgiveness is a 2015 documentary film directed by sharmeen obaid chinoy about honour killings in Pakistan. The film is produced by Tina Brown and sheila Nevins in collaboration with HBO documentary films. A girl in the river was edited by geof Bartz,A.C.E .The documentary was well received by critics & earned widespread critical acclaim.

There are moments when humanity & compassion are lost among cultural reason & logic .Humanity & compassion are like stones thrown among other stones, piling up & disregarded as rubble or debris

Saba, the focus of the oscar winning documentary A girl in the river:The price of forgiveness, is one of these stones .Despite its poetic, even romantic titles, this film is a straight talking story about a Pakistani women’s punishment for finding love.

Saba falls for a man named Qaiser. Saba’s father & uncle do not approve of this match because Qaiser is from a poorer family. Nevertheless, Saba runs away & marries him. Saba’s father & uncle are deeply angered that saba has acted against their wishes. Despite swearing on the Quran that they forgive her & that they will return her home safely, saba’s father drives her to a set of trees, pulls the trigger. In an attempt to hide saba’s father drives her to a set of trees, pulls out a pistol ,puts it to his daughter’s head & pulls the trigger. In an attempt to hide saba’s body, they put her in a bag & throw her in river.

A girl in the river portrays that honor and respect are the most valuable trade assets. Both are built upon maintaining control of daughters & wives. As fathers & brothers are the breadwinners, they maintain power .By keeping women at home ,they are confined. The milk spoils when women are unleashed to become more than child bearers and caregivers & are allowed to make autonomous decisions such as who they will marry .

When saba’s father told his wife he would kill saba, he says she could do nothing but cry . “For I am her husband, & she is just my wife ”

When saba’s father Maqsood speaks, it is as if he is giving a sermon .”whatever we did,we were obliged to do it. She took away our honor, this was unlawful of her ” He uses a metaphor of comparing his daughter to drop of piss in a gallon of milk. The drop ruins the whole gallon of milk. The metaphor perfectly articulates his cultural and family position. Law is not written. It is his duty to keep the women in his family in line with community law.

Obaid chinoy became the first Pakistani woman to win two Academy Awards with this short documentary. Her first was for saving face, about acid attacks in Pakistan. For her second win,she walked onto the stage overflowing with pride and confidence “This is what happens when determined women get together “. She ended her speech by stating that after seeing the film ,the prime minister agreed to take steps in removing the “honor” from the act & therefore be ruled as a killing.

I’m inspired to be vigilant. I’m inspired to stand up unwaveringly for what is right & what is in my heart. I’m inspired by sharmeen obaid chinoy

The extraordinary story of a young Pakistani women who lived to tell her narrow escape from an attempted “honor ” killing by her father and uncle. Told through the lens of true love story, the film tells the story of saba who was shot and left for dead after marrying a man once promised to her .The result is a scathing examination of the contradiction b/w modernism & tradition within Pakistani society .
